They fly without pilots. They are called Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or UAV’s. And NMSU is the only university in the U.S. working with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to work out the policies that will allow UAV’s to fly in commercial airspace. In this week’s show, we show you NMSU’s three UAV’s in action, the people who pilot and operate the aircraft and plans for a giant new hangar at the Las Cruces airport that will house even the nation’s largest UAV’s, and could become a national center for UAV activity. In segment two, find out how NMSU is working as part of a consortium of universities to revive agriculture in the war-torn country of Iraq – particularly in the area of ag extension.
