Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico's registered voters are getting a lot of attention from the major presidential and vice presidential candidates. This past Sunday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin held a rally in Roswell which drew thousands of supporters. Food Banks Feel the Crunch of Economic Downturn

Las Cruces, NM – A number of local food banks are feeling the crunch of the nation's economic downturn. On average, Community Action Agency of Las Cruces feeds five to ten thousand people a month. Most of the food bank's donations are collected through food drives; but Executive Director Rebecca Reyes says the amount they've collected in recent months has gone down substantially. NMED Officials to Meet with Hurley Residents

Las Cruces, NM – Next Wednesday, the state environment department will hold a public meeting in Grant County.

Environment officials want to hear comments from residents regarding the proposed plan for the Hurley soils investigation unit.

According to the state agency an investigation indicated that the soil in the town of Hurley contains elevated concentrations of metal mostly copper. The contamination is a result of historic ore processing operations. Chino Mines Company has proposed removing the contaminated soil.
