Internal Investigations Underway at NMSU College of Health and Social Services

Las Cruces, NM – Earlier this week students in New Mexico State University's College of Health and Social Services held a protest on campus to raise awareness of what some claim are racist and unfair hiring and firing practices. Vote-Buying Allegations in State Republican Party

Albuquerque, NM – The pre-primary nominating conventions are coming up this weekend for both the Republican and Democratic parties in the state. And as was recently reported by independent Albuquerque journalist Dennis Domrzalski, there's a bit of a cloud that continues to hang over them in light of allegations of pressure from candidates to get certain delegates elected. But as KUNM's Jim Williams reports, those allegations may be symptoms of a larger problem with how party rules are written.

Proposed Changes to Nuclear Complex Spark Debate

Las Cruces, NM – The National Nuclear Security Administration, or N-N-S-A, is considering changes to the nation's nuclear weapons complex which includes New Mexico's Los Alamos National Laboratory. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, the federal agency, within the Department of Energy, says the plan referred to as Complex Transformation is designed to make the nation's weapons program smaller, less expensive, more efficient and safer.

Dona Ana County Commission Wants Peaceful Resolution of Border Land Dispute

Las Cruces, NM – Yesterday the Dona Ana County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of a resolution intended to help resolve a violent land dispute in the Mexican Colonia of Lomas de Poleo, West of Ciudad Juarez. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports the Commission is asking Governor Richardson, and New Mexico's two United States Senators for their immediate assistance.

Santa Fe, NM – Governor Bill Richardson says the state's efforts to fight drunk driving are paying off. The governor said Friday that New Mexico's number of alcohol-related traffic fatalities has fallen to the lowest level in nineteen years. KUNM's Jim Williams has this report.

Attorney General Issues Opinion on Solo Investment Lease

Las Cruces, NM – Last year, the City of Las Cruces approved the Vistas at Presidio annexation despite heavy opposition. Now, the development agreement signed by the State Land Office and Solo Investments, owned by local developer Phillip Phillipou, is at the center of controversy. As KRWG's Callie French reports, the State Attorney General recently stated that certain portions of the agreement are not authorized by state law.
