El Paso County Commission and City Council Want Otero Mesa Protected

Las Cruces, NM – Monday the El Paso County Commission passed a resolution asking Congress to permanently protect the Otero Mesa from oil and natural gas drilling and exploration. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the resolution cited the need to protect a large salt basin aquifer, which the United States Geological Survey estimates may contain as much as 57 million acre feet of water.

James McDonough Appointed Interim President of NMSU

Las Cruces, NM – Friday morning the New Mexico State University Board of Regents voted to appoint James McDonough as the Interim President of NMSU. McDonough who currently works as a private consultant, spent over 15 years on campus as the Senior Vice President for Business , Finance and Human Resources before leaving in 2006. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the Regents say they are also moving forward quickly to find a permanent successor for departing President Michael Martin.

Martin Unanimously Voted Into LSU Chancellor Post

Las Cruces, NM – This afternoon Dr. Michael Martin was officially named the new Chancellor at the main campus of Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge. LSU System Vice President for Communications and External Affairs, Charles Zewe says the University's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously and enthusiastically to hire Martin.

Udall Will Support Obama

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Democratic Congressman and Super Delegate Tom Udall announced this morning that he will support Illinois Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic Party's nominee for President of the United States. Udall who is also New Mexico's Democratic nominee for the United States Senate was the last of the state's uncommitted Super Delegates.
