According to the report seventeen point two percent of residents live below the poverty line in New Mexico. Las Cruces – Sonoma Elementary School in Las Cruces opened its doors last week. Located just off Highway 70, the school was built to accommodate students from various overcrowded elementary schools in the surrounding area. Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico is ranked last in the country for pedestrian safety, so the Las Cruces Police Department is targeting the problem. As KRWG's Yasmin Pinon reports, starting this week and continuing for the rest of the summer, police will be giving out warnings and then tickets to drivers who don't yield to pedestrians.
