Incorporation Effort Goes Online

Anthony, NM – An effort to incorporate the southern New Mexico community of Anthony is taking advantage of the Internet to make the case to young people.
Backers have launched a profile on the social networking site, MySpace.com, at http://www.myspace.com/anthonynewmexico
An incorporation leader, Victor Montoya, says he set up the page because of the success of President Barack Obama in using the Internet to reach voters.
Montoya says he hopes the page will generate interest among the young, who historically haven't been involved in area politics.
Nineteen-year-old Julio Hidalgo who is one of the 274 contacts added to the page says social networking is the right strategy to reach young people.
Anthony's population was 7,904 in the 2000 Census. Anthony had a median age of 24.1, compared to 35.3 nationwide.
