Protesters Arrested At Los Alamos Laboratory
Six protesters arrested at the gates of Los Alamos National Laboratory on the anniversary of the atomic bomb drop on Japan are headed to court.
The protesters are slated to make a court appearance Wednesday in Los Alamos Municipal Court before Judge Alan Kirk.
The six protesters were charged with trespass, refusing to obey an officer and obstructing movement. Each could spend 179 days in jail and be fined up to $1,500.
Los Alamos is where the world's first atomic bomb was developed during World War II. It was dropped on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945 and on Nagasaki three days later.
Supporters of the protesters have invited environmentalists to hold a rally outside of the courthouse.
