February 8, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with three times Native American Music Award Winner, recording artist, composer and drum maker, Yolanda Martinez. She has been making drums since 1987 and made her first recording in 1992. Carlsbad native, Martinez received her first NAMMY, The Grammy for The Native American Music Industry, in 2005 as Best Female Artist. Her music consists of drumming and chanting, contemporary Native American, country, Latin and folk recordings.

Las Cruces, NM  – February 1, 2013 – On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Performer and Educational Consultant, Rosa Guerrero, from El Paso, Texas bridging the community as an artist, educator, dance historian, and humanitarian. In 1970 she established El Paso’s first ballet folklorico group, The Rosa Guerrero International Folklorico Dance Group.

January 10, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with local professional artists, Carolyn Bunch and her son, Tony Pennock. They both recall painting murals as children, and have made it their life’s work.

Bunch moved to New Mexico in the 1950’s, and has been involved in the arts as a public school teacher, an artist and gallery owner of Adobe Patio Gallery. She is currently one of fifteen artists featured at an exhibition at the Adobe Patio Gallery in Mesilla.

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

January 4, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Border/Environmental Justice Liaison for the New Mexico Environment Department, Thomas Ruiz. He will talk to us about a global chronic disease of the central nervous system, Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The National MS Society has been walking since 1988 to help create a world free of MS. To register and to help the Las Cruces Chapter visit their website at “main.nationalmssociety.org.”  Walk MS: Las Cruces will be held at Young Park on Saturday, April 6th starting at 9 a.m.

December 12, 2012 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board member, Martha Shipman Andrews, who was recently appointed to NMHRAB, by Governor Susana Martinez. NMHRAB is a branch of the National Archives and Records Administration. It reviews grant proposals for projects that identify, preserve, increase accessibility to, and promotes the use of New Mexico’s Historical records and documents.
