ASARCO Announces Permanent Closure of El Paso Copper Smelter

Las Cruces, NM – ASARCO LLC announced Tuesday that they will permanently close their copper smelter in El Paso, Texas citing a dramatic downturn of the world economy'. Among the items on the ballot were two bond renewals and several contested board of education races.
