Motorists asked to avoid Lohman Ave. near Telshor Blvd due to Construction

Las Cruces, NM – Las Cruces Police officials are asking motorists to avoid Lohman Avenue near Telshor Boulevard in Las Cruces during high traffic hours.

A road construction project caused long delays Monday morning particularly affecting travelers headed east on Lohman.

People heading toward Mesilla Valley Mall or other area businesses are urged to seek alternate routes.

Anyone who must travel near Lohman Avenue and Telshor Boulevard is asked to drive with caution and courtesy.

LCPD Search for missing Woman

Las Cruces, NM – The Las Cruces Police Department is asking for help finding a twenty-year old woman missing for over a week.

Judith Elizabeth Flores was last seen on July 25, when she told acquaintances she was on her way to El Paso, Texas to make extra money dancing.

The twenty-year old wasn't reported missing until several days later, According to Las Cruces police.

Flores is five feet, four inches in height, weighs approximately 160-pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Some in NM doubt the long term benefits of USDA Program for Dairy Producers

Las Cruces, NM – The federal government is stepping in to assist the nation's dairy industry, struggling to make a profit because of plummeting milk prices and high cost of feed. The move was celebrated by U.S. Senator Tom Udall and Congressman Harry Teague, but as KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, not everyone in New Mexico is convinced the plan is a good long-term solution.

Bingaman Questions Funding Source for Cash for Clunkers Program

Las Cruces, NM – This week, the U.S senate will discuss a second infusion of funds to the almost depleted Cash for Clunkers Program. On Friday the US House passed a bill adding two billion dollars to the program. As KRWG's Vanessa Dabovich reports, New Mexico U.S Senator Jeff Bingaman supports extending the program, but wants lawmakers to reconsider the source of funding.

Las Cruces, NM – The University of Texas at El Paso student union was busy last week as more than fifty student organizations came together for an involvement fair, part of the university's fall orientation, to advertise the campus' many student organizations. Decree Agreed Upon By El Paso Electric and New Mexico Environment Department

Las Cruces Roadrunner Transit to get new Buses

Las Cruces, NM – The City of Las Cruces is getting close to two million federal dollars to upgrade its transit system.

Federal officials announced today that the city will receive 1.7 million dollars to pay for three 30-foot busses, equipment and maintenance facility upgrades.

Roadrunner Transit of Las Cruces currently has nine buses traveling throughout the city.

The money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act also includes 1.4-million dollars for the city of Santa Fe.

Woman's Body found in Santa Teresa

Las Cruces, NM – The body of a woman was discovered this morning near Santa Teresa Elementary School in Dona Ana County.

According to Sheriff's Officials, a person out for a morning walk found the body of the unidentified woman in a desert area off Commerciantes Boulevard in Santa Teresa.

Sheriff's officials are not disclosing any further information at this time, because they say the investigation is in its preliminary stage.

WNMU Receives Grant for Nursing Program

Silver City – Good news for area nurses looking to continue their education.

The Department of Nursing at Western New Mexico University has been awarded a national three-year grant to help fund its RN-to-BSN program.

The program allows current registered nurses with an associate's degree the flexibility to earn a bachelor's degree.

The El Paso City Council fails to Override Mayor Cook's Veto

Las Cruces, NM – The ongoing billboard controversy in El Paso seems to have no end in sight. Yesterday, the City Council failed to override Mayor John Cook's veto of a billboard ban after just four representatives voted in favor of its implementation. The Council needed six votes to overrule Cook's rejection.

District One Representative, Ann Morgan Lily, who proposed the ordinance calling it a quality of life issue expressed her disappointment in the Mayor.
