New Mexico Mystery Novel Writer Remembered

Las Cruces, NM – He was consistently a bestselling author for more than 35 years. His mystery novels were unique - set in the four corners region of New Mexico and Arizona, and noted for the cultural details they provided for the main characters of the books - mainly native Americans. Gary King Asks EPA to Consider New Evidence in 'Desert Rock' Appeals

Las Cruces, NM – Tuesday New Mexico's Attorney General Gary King filed a motion with the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Appeals Board, requesting that it accept new evidence when considering the fate of the proposed Desert Rock Power Plant in Northwestern New Mexico. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, King claims that ozone impacts in the area from the oil and gas industry are significantly higher than the EPA had assumed when it permitted the facility.

NMED Asks For Review of ASARCO Air Permit

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Environment Department Secretary Ron Curry is urging the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ, to review its air permit renewal for Asarco Smelter in El Paso. Freeport McMoran Announces Layoffs in Grant County

Las Cruces, NM – Monday Grant County's biggest employer Freeport-McMoRan announced the layoffs of 36 employees at the Tyrone mine. This announcement came on the heels of last week's layoffs of almost 100 workers at the Chino Mine. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, Freeport-McMoRan says the layoffs were the result of tumbling copper prices.
